Provide an explanation of the procedures you need to follow if a child is taken ill at the setting.
When children become ill at the setting we must follow the procedures of the setting to help the child. When you first notice the chid not well maybe they feel hot, have a rash, lethargic, hurt their limbs or are just unresponsive you need to take action. Depending on the severity of the illness will depend on the action taken. You will need to take the child’s temperature, make sure there are no marks or other signs off illness on the child. Call their parents to collect them, if they are unable to come then you may have to find a quiet place for the child to rest while they wait. Or if more serious wait with the child and wait for an ambulance to arrive.

Three day fever: a child might come down suddenly with a fever or be complaining of a sore throat at the setting. You should take their temperature and if to high then you will need to contact their parents/carers. While you are waiting for the parents/carers to arrive you will need to make the child comfortable give them fluids to drink. You may also need to retake their temperature if not collect right away.
